It is curious how pointers appear when one feels that direction is lacking. This time the pointer came in the form of news that a person is set to be executed this 30th of August for driving a friend away from the scene of a murder.
It appears that Texas came to this stunningly brilliant (and yes, I am being sarcastic) judgement in light of a ‘law of parties’ which can effectively tie individuals in for penalties for crimes that they do not actually commit.
Needless to say, I am sorely tempted to stage a repeate performance of protest outside the American embassy in Malta… but it is not a unanimous internal decision. Why? Well the following might throw light upon the matter…
For:
- Kenneth Foster did not kill anybody. All he did was drive a person away from a murder. It may sound flippant of myself to say so… but in the context of the death penalty it is a ludicrious situation already.
- I am firmly in the anti-Death Penalty camp.
Against:
- We are not talking Malta’s next-door neighbour here. We’re talking about a large pseudo-nation (which relies on propaganda for a fair bit of its “unity”) half way around the planet.
- Then come the personal reasons…
I frankly am not certain but think it more likely than not that I shall…
