They say that it is better to say a word too few than a word too many. While this may be a valid statement from the perspective of caution, it also serves to stem initiative and creativity.

One enters the realm of compromise - the compromise of the self for the benefit of another. While there is nothing wrong with the concept of laying claim for less with the intent of a greater mutual benefit, such is only practical within the context of a beneficiary who is ready to play ball - who is ready to cooperate. Without cooperation a compromise is like a retreat, with the lost territory and resources that such entails. Hence it is a loss for the person offering compromise. It is a proverbial leap of faith within another person and leaps of faith do not always find solid earth upon touch-down.

This is not to say that one ought not to seek opportunities to partake in cooperative compromise as the successful identification and participation within such benefits both entities. Such benefits are brought about through synergy and it is this synergy that makes a case, beyond moral, for timely cooperation and compromise.
