In following up with my previous sentimental feelings on the approaching execution of Kenneth Foster I cannot help but lose a little faith in humanity - certainly less faith within the segment of humanity invested within the state of Texas.
Still… the crux of this problem does not lie with the people. The average individual is rightly primarily concerned with their own well-being - and such is natural and cannot be contradicted in any lasting and meaningful fashion. The one thing that directs their energies towards non-selfish aspirations is inspiration and, sadly, this element has been deadened beneath the circumstances that hold Texans hostage in this saga.
Texas is about the only place in the western World where an individual can end up on death-row for driving a gang around in a series of events that climaxed in the shooting murder of a person. Under the State’s ‘law of parties’ Kenneth Foster was sentenced to death for his role (as a driver) in his capacity of forming a part of the group that murdered a person.
For a time it was my decision to actively protest on the matter… but in the end I decided that it was not my place to do so, half-way around the world from the fact. It was also highly encouraging to see far more substantial protests a lot closer to the area. I guess I’ll just hang on to the mostly-complete protest banners for the moment as a memento.
If only America would do likewise and refrain from sticking their noses into the businesses and territories of others…
