Escapism… Such is a concept which can mean different things to different people and with different meanings, different implications follow.
When this concept is taken with as grand a context as that of reality, one is able to acknowledge that there are people out there who have attempted to escape the confines of their lives, for various reasons and through various means.
Yet why would one wish to escape this reality for something else? What is this something else which some of us seek so fervently? How far would we go if we felt it could get us closer to finding it? These are the sorts of questions that cause the self discomfort to think about, and yet finding the answers to such questions would serve to thin the fog of uncertainty that shrouds the mystery of life.
The truth is that such persons feel that the reality that they are living is lacking something important, and that they would like to live within a reality where there no longer is that shortage. Whether the shortcoming takes the form of wealth, of social life, of peace and stability, of adventure or any of a myriad of other possibilities (including those far less simple), individuals take those perceived shortcomings and take them to be a basis for deeming their reality flawed or undesirable.
Hence if one sees an opportunity to escape their reality then their natural inclination is to do so, the only thing keeping them anchored to their current reality being their social contacts and ambitions tied to their current reality. A lot more could be said… but I think I’ll let it settle at this for the moment.
