Well, it is a topic that has taken my fancy for some time. How does good compare to law? Are they not one and the same? Is there a difference? How does this affect ‘me’?

Well… in order to facilitate one’s perspective as to the degree of similarity, or otherwise, between the two concepts one may as well identify the antithesis of each - evil for good and chaos for law. From these two pairings alone one may ascertain that the one duality exists upon the scale of altruism (for lack of a more accurate description) while the other duality exists upon the scale of structure - social structure in particular.

And so they are to each other as space and geography are to time and history. Therefore to equate good with law would be inaccurate as one may easily come across acts of random kindness, such as charity. Similarly to equate law with good would also be inaccurate as one may easily perceive acts of tyranny.

The reason why society tends to attempt to align good with law is because law is of vital importance to the existence of society, itself a structured construct. Without the rigidness of the structure of law the structure of society would become more malleable and less secure.

And since the law also tends to be utilized in the interest of shifting the balance of power towards the ruling classes it comes as no surprise that the law also tends to be engineered by these same classes to be beyond the grasp of the mere common mortal of the lower classes. In ages past the regulating method of choice was the placement of artificial barriers against the common mortals becoming literate. As Europe entered an age of greater literacy so too did the ruling classes naturally shift towards the obscuring of the law in ever more devious fashions. The common mortals, unable to make head or tails of legal jargon-speak, found themselves forced to seek intermediaries to interprete the law on their behalf, thereby alienating individuals from control over their own destiny.

Think about it. Is the legal system in your area completely representative of that which is good?
