This marks the beginning of the process of importing a few earlier ramblings that I’d made in a weblog that predates this website. Keep in mind that the tone may be a little more aloof as a result of this.

When we think of reality and ideology we do not normally think of these terms as being easily correlated to each other. An individual is either considered to be a realist or an idealist. It seems that the two terms exist in dialectical opposition to each other and may never truly relate.

The apparent opposition is based upon the observation and presumption that something that is real is not of the domain of the ideal and vice versa. Yet within reality individuals tend to come across many situations that we deem to be ideal within a certain context, even though that ideal situation also represents a real situation. Furthermore, throughout history visionaries have sought to bring about a reflection of their ideologies within the reality that they resided. Many such visionaries floundered upon stumbling blocks and yet in many cases the ideological aspects of the visions held by such individuals found their way into the thoughts of other individuals further down the line.

Therefore reality and ideology relate upon a level that transcends mere opposition. It would seem that relating them to each other as being simply different perspectives upon the fabric of existence (while cautiously avoiding reference to ‘reality’ for the purpose of this observation) would perhaps be more accurate. The plane of reality could hence be considered the realm of ‘that which is’ while the realm of ideology could be considered the realm of ‘that which could be’ with the further implication of human needs and especially desires considered.
