Throughout history individuals have asked the question to themselves of what reality really is. Of course these same individuals then launch into a series of other similarly confounding questions but let us pause here. What is reality? When one knocks upon the surface of a table… is that reality? When one turns on the television… is that reality? When one snuggles with a loved one… is that reality?

When individuals perceive the happenings (events) and the relative constants (substance) of the world around them, they know that they perceive something other than a nothingness. In that perception one therefore comes to the deduction that one’s perceptions are fragments of what one could term reality.

Of course then the question is asked whether what one perceives is really representative of reality. Well… is it? It would hold validity to suggest that reality is to an individual (or group identity) as a ball is to a torchlight - the torch can only shed light upon a portion of the surface of the ball in question and therefore the perspective of an individual tends to be imperfect and in need of a broader perspective in relation to the reality concerned.

In other words, for as far as an individual identity is concerned, one’s perspective of reality can shade and hence redefine what one actually considers to be the totality of reality.
