Most persons would recall the biblical story of Adam and Eve, or the story of a man and a woman (who were both the first of their kind created by God), who lived in the Garden of Eden, took a bite into a forbidden apple plucked from the ‘tree of knowledge of good and evil’, and their subsequent fall from grace and expulsion from the garden to live a life of suffering. So too would we recall that, in the story, the first sign of their loss of innocence was their consciousness of being naked.
Archive for January, 2008It is almost always a sombre day when somebody dear to the self departs the present life and embarks upon a journey to the next. The atmosphere of mourning and grief (the anatomy of which is contemplated upon here) that lingers amongst those of us left behind to contemplate this departure is made none the better when legal issues regarding the will of the departed start to get considered. Possible conflicts and disagreements amongst the surviving heirs can be bad enough but then also enters into play the matter of paying inheritance-related taxes to the Government. Set a pace suitable for all in debate. This statement is a response to the unfortunate everyday tendency for efforts in debate to be undermined by the poor apportionment in time. It basically boils down to having the common decency to let the person finish what they need to say, making any such exchange a significantly more pleasant and productive experience for all concerned. |
