Robocraft 1 was a game that spanned 2013 through to early 2025.
In 2020, the developer, Freejam, stopped actively developing it, and they entrusted balance to a discord that claimed to represent the community of the game.
This discord was run as an oligarchy. It did not represent the community. Worse, the most incumbent elements within that oligarchy didn’t have the best interests of the game at heart. Those elements cared more about the power and control that they wielded – and they didn’t particularly care if the game or remaining player base suffered as a result.
And they didn’t take kindly to anybody posing a threat to that challenge. So, they abused the leverage that their discord permissions provided so as to silence their critics.
Things came to a head in early 2022 when I got perma-muted on the discord, where I remained until the game was shut down in early 2025.
Over the course of 2022 through early 2023 I attempted to raise awareness both publicly as well as with Freejam.
Freejam would eventually stop putting out updates around the turn of 2024, but never acknowledged that they were paying ear to a person who was more in love with himself and his control than the game the balance of which he was effectively entrusted with.
A person who apparently is working on bringing the game back, which I personally hold conflicting feelings over – a bit like watching a person assisting in delivering CPR on another that they had been playing a hand in choking out. ¬_¬
I will have my eye on the revival project.
Next up – The FixTF2 situation.
