Tracker Class Weapons

That which defines a tracker class weapon:

  • It is rather light to carry, and so does not much impede mobility.
  • It is accurate and, with enough power, true over long range.
  • It is single action, but it penetrates and damages armour.
  • Targets struck are tracked by a sparrow, for a time.
  • It uses specialty type ammunition.
  • It is relatively quiet to fire.

The humble bow and sparrow can be rather challenging to get value out of, at first. Unlike other weapons that fire off their projectiles on pressing the fire button, the bow and sparrow begins to draw and charge up its shot while the left mouse button is pressed, and is released when the button is released. Trying to tap-fire the weapon will generally prove largely ineffective, the power and range of the shot being very low.

However it does not take long to charge up one’s shot. You can tell when it is full charged because the sharp point of your arrow will shine. It may be tempting to keep one’s arrow always notched to full power but one moves slower during a state of charge. Although it is helpful to note that one can jump with a charging or charged arrow.

Now, when an arrow does strike an enemy, the pointy tip penetrates armour that one is wearing, dealing a portion of damage to a SuperAnimal through non-broken armour. What is more, an angry sparrow starts flying above the target’s head for everybody to see. This sparrow may be seen even if the target is out of sight, and this is a powerful tracking tool.

A higher rarity variant of this weapon is the sparrow launcher. This crossbow is easier to use and behaves more like other weapons in that it has five special rounds in a clip that is reloaded normally, and unleashes one of its sparrows upon the press of the fire button. The sparrow also tracks for significantly longer.
